Description
The "Tichelgaten" is a fairly small natural area near the village of Buren and consists of several small ponds, reedbeds, pastures and small forested areas. Once, this area has been excavated for clay and has been turned into a small natural area since. The area is a good spot for many species of common songbird, woodpecker and small numbers of waterbirds. Frequently sighted species are vihertikka, mustapääkerttu and harmaasieppo. The small ponds and reedbeds are a great spot for rytikerttunen, pikku-uikku and kuningaskalastaja. The small forested area in the west provides good habitat for woodpeckers, like käpytikka and sometimes pikkutikka. Scarcer species that can be found here are Kuhankeittäjä, silkkikerttunen, nokkavarpunen and etelänsatakieli.
On the northern side of the road, the biggest pond is located and provides a great spot for many species of waterbird. In winter, fairly large numbers of tukkasotka and harmaasorsa can be found here. Sometimes, scarcer species like isokoskelo and punasotka might show up.
