Summer and winter polder with (wet) grassland, reed and marsh.
Ryptsjerksterpolder has often large groups of geese in winter. In particular valkoposkihanhi and tundrahanhi, sometimes as many as 10,000s. The meadows are managed extensively and are therefore very suitable for meadow birds. In particular taivaanvuohi, mustapyrstökuiri and töyhtöhyyppä but also kiuru and keltavästäräkki. The ruskosuohaukka breeds in the reed beds on the south side. Little songbirds can be seen near the viewing platform in spring and summer.

On the road from Tytsjerk to Gytsjerk, after approx. 1 km on the west side is a picnic area with information panel and benches.
