Description
De Grië is the area just east of the village of Oosterend. Grië has four duck decoys: the Takkenkooi, the Jan Willemskooi, the Horrekooi and the Rimkeskooi. The 'Wierschuur' is also located on the Grië, a shed in which the sea grass mowed in the Wadden Sea used to be dried. The seagrass was then used as filling for pillows and mattresses. On the meadows, around the duck decoys and along the mudflats you can see a nice mix of birds in this peaceful area. Birds you can encounter include muuttohaukka, valkoviklo, suosirri, sepelhanhi, ristisorsa, jouhisorsa, haahka, meriharakka, kuovi, isosirri, niittykirvinen, hemppo, vihervarpunen, punakylkirastas, räkättirastas, järripeippo and ruskosuohaukka.

Nederlands: De Grië is een buitendijks cultuurlandschap direct ten oosten van het dorp Oosterend waar het leuk vogels kijken is. Grië betekent aangroei of opslibbing, en het kent een lange geschiedenis van aanwas en afslag. Dit stuk buitendijkse land heeft vier eendenkooien: de Takkenkooi, de Jan Willemskooi, de Horrekooi en de Rimkeskooi. Op de Grië staat ook de Wierschuur, een schuur waarin vroeger het op de Waddenzee gemaaide zeegras werd gedroogd. Het zeegras werd toen gebruikt als vulling voor kussens en matrassen. Op de Waddenzee komen hier twee vloedstromen samen, het wantij. Op de weilanden, rondom de eendenkooien en langs het wad kun je een mooie mix van vogels zien en het is er vaak lekker rustig. Vogels die je onder meer kunt tegenkomen zijn muuttohaukka, valkoviklo, suosirri, sepelhanhi, ristisorsa, jouhisorsa, haahka, meriharakka, kuovi, isosirri, niittykirvinen, hemppo, vihervarpunen, punakylkirastas, räkättirastas, järripeippo, sepelrastas en ruskosuohaukka.

Easily accessible on foot or by bike from Oosterend (1 km). While walking along the central path and Koaipôd - the sandy paths along the duck decoys you will hardly meet anyone. The four duck decoys are not freely accessible. The surrounding alder trees are attractive to birds such as such as punakylkirastas and vihervarpunen. Also on the tidal flat side under the Grie it is beautiful to walk, and you will of course see many wading birds, but the silt can be treacherously slippery here. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 5 km long.

Nederlands: Gemakkelijk te voet of met de fiets bereikbaar vanuit Oosterend (1 km). Al wandelend over het middenpad en Koaipôd - de zandpaden langs de eendenkooien - kom je bijna niemand tegen. De vier eendenkooien zijn niet toegankelijk. De omliggende elzensingels zijn aantrekkelijk voor vogels als zoals punakylkirastas en vihervarpunen. Ook aan de wadkant bij de Grië is het prachtig wandelen, en zie je uiteraard veel wadvogels maar het slib kan hier wel verraderlijk glad zijn. Beste tijd is rond hoogwater, want dan komen er meer vogels dichtbij de kust en naar de kwelders om te rusten (zie de link naar de getijdentabel hieronder) De rondwandeling zoals aangegeven op de kaart is ongeveer 5 km lang.
