Description
The abundance of water in De Blikken attracts many ducks and geese in winter. haapana and tundrahanhi graze on the banks. Small waders scavenge their food along the muddy banks. In the spring, meadow birds such as töyhtöhyyppä and mustapyrstökuiri nest here. Hundreds of naurulokki and dozens of mustakaulauikku and avosetti breed on the centrally located islands. The number of breeding valkoposkihanhi is increasing every year.

Nederlands: De Blikken is een klein natuurgebied waar het water zoveel mogelijk wordt vastgehouden. De overvloed aan water trekt in de winter veel eenden en ganzen aan. haapana en tundrahanhi grazen op de oevers. Kleine steltlopers scharrelen hun voedsel langs de modderige oevers. In het voorjaar broeden hier weidevogels zoals töyhtöhyyppä en mustapyrstökuiri. Honderden naurulokki en tientallen mustakaulauikku en avosetti broeden op de centraal gelegen eilanden. Het aantal broedende valkoposkihanhi neemt elk jaar toe. Vanaf de Ringdijk kun je het gebied goed overzien en er zijn ook twee vogelkijkhutten.
