Parco delle Cave is the third largest park in Milan. It is not fenced and therefore always accessible. It has 4 artificial ponds, woods and streams.
Parco delle Cave is a place where you can observe different bird species despite being in the metropolitan area of Milan. Especially herons are easily visible. But you can also spot woodpeckers like käpytikka and vihertikka, and water birds like pikku-uikku and kuningaskalastaja in the park.

Access is free and there are numerous car parks in the immediate vicinity. I find the one near the supermarket on Via delle Forze Armate or the one on Via Roberto Rossellini the most convenient. Click on a P in the map for directions. You can go around by bike or better on foot to enjoy a bit of greenery despite being in the middle of the city.
