Description

Lago Matese is a beautiful alpine lake situated in the Matese Regional Park. The lake covers a surface area of 5 square kilometres and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,011 metres above sea level. The lake attracts many ducks and is a rest and feeding area for many birds during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are heinätavi, tavi, ruskosotka, pikku-uikku, turturikyyhky, käki, Kurki, pitkäjalka, valkoviklo, liro, kaulushaikara, pikkuhaikara, ruskohaikara, rääkkähaikara, yöhaikara, pronssi-iibis, kapustahaikara, Mehiläishaukka, käärmekotka, maakotka, ruskosuohaukka, isohaarahaukka, haarahaukka, kyläpöllönen, harjalintu, pikkulepinkäinen, alppivaris and korppi.

Access

Lago Matese is situated in the Matese Regional Park, within the Province of Caserta. The lake can be reached by car. There is a road that runs along the entire perimeter but best option is to park and explore the banks on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
