The sewage pond area on KM 19 is one of the classic spots for birding around Eilat.
The KM 19 pool is famous for its Lichtenstein's Sandgrouse that come in to drink at dusk. The pool is also good for ducks, herons and waders. Among the birds that can be seen are heinätavi, jouhisorsa, kynsihyyppä, smyrnankalastaja, valko-otsalepinkäinen, flamingo, ruskosotka, pikkumehiläissyöjä, pitkäjalka, suokukko, valkoviklo, kapustahaikara, kaitanokkalokki, räyskä, ruskosuohaukka, ruskohaikara, yöhaikara and pikkuhaikara. But many more birds can be spotted, see the birdlist below.
The ponds are located 19 km north of Eilat. Come off Route 90 from the south, drive due east. Passable for all kinds of vehicles. Some parts may be muddy at times.
