Description
Höfði Woodland Park is located on the eastern side of Lake Mývatn and consists of a beautiful forested area adjacent to the lake. Several pathways lead through a diverse habitat with scattered trees, strange rock formations and great views over the lake. The park is a good spot for local breeding birds, such as urpiainen, punakylkirastas and peukaloinen. During migration, anything can show up here! Especially finches, like peippo, järripeippo and punatulkku have been seen in the past.
The rocky parts are particular good for kiiruna. The area is also used as hunting ground by tunturihaukka.
The views over the lake provide observations of many species of waterbird, like amerikantelkkä, lapasotka, vesipääsky, tukkakoskelo and alli.
