Formerly an airport, the area is now a public park consisting mainly of wide grassland which in summer is partly protected from disturbing dogs and visitors.
The area is characterized by the enormous density of kiuru . Numbers are changing but for most of the year you almost stumble over them and they are not shy at all - as aren't the other regular breeding species harmaasirkku, pikkulepinkäinen, kivitasku, tikli or etelänsatakieli. The area is a very popular public park and can get overcrowded during daytime so the best time for birding is early in the morning.
During migration time, common visitors are mustapäätasku, pensastasku, niittykirvinen and pajusirkku. Less frequently, but regularly observed are lehtokurppa, suopöllö or kangaskiuru. Also käenpiika and nummikirvinen are recorded yearly, mainly in August.
Keep your eyes open for overflying raptors and waders of all kind (there are single records of kuovi, kapustarinta, punajalkahaukka, piekana, sinisuohaukka and so on)!
As located within a very urban and densely populated area the park has good connections via urban transportation with bus and metro from several directions. There is U-Bahn in the east (U8 Boddinstraße or Leinestraße) and west (U6 Paradestraße or Tempelhof), S-Bahn in the southwest (S 41/42 Tempelhof) and bus in the north (line 104, stopps "Golßener Str." or "Friedhöfe Columbiadamm").
The "Feld" is well accessible by foot and by bike. Be aware of the opening and closing time (approx. sunrise to sunset)!
