Description
The castle ponds are located on the eastern edge of the town of Ellwangen, in a small valley with a stream and are partly surrounded by a dense layer of bushes, as well as deciduous trees, including several old oaks. On the adjacent northern slope there is a meadow orchard with old fruit trees.
At the ponds you can observe various species of ducks and kuningaskalastaja. käpytikka, pähkinänakkeli, and occasionally tammitikka can be found in the old oak trees. In the orchards you can observe kirjosieppo and harmaasieppo in summer, and järripeippo, nokkavarpunen and punakylkirastas in winter.

Access
The castle ponds are located directly below the Ellwangen castle. You can park your car in the castle car park. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. The best way to explore the area is on foot, but you can also use a bicycle.
Public Transport: Ellwangen train station (starred on the map) is a very convenient 12min walk away, and is serviced by many different trains.
