Description

The Scharpenacken area is characterized by diverse, small landscape structures and large open spaces, which, as part of the Wuppertal southern heights, offer wide views. The Scharpenacken is about 60% forested, the rest of the area is open land. The area is a protected landscape and is home to several valuable biotopes, including the Schmalenhofer Bach, a near-natural low mountain stream, pastures, ponds and hedges. Since the area was used by the military for a long time, the forest has hardly been managed and contains a lot of dead wood, which attracts many birds. Among the birds you can encounter are metsäkirvinen, tammitikka, käpytikka, vihertikka, palokärki, lehtopöllö, hiirihaukka, leppälintu and pähkinänakkeli.
