Protected lake and a beautiful meadow landscape around it. A bird hide with an artificial breeding cavity makes good observations of kuningaskalastaja possible.
Kuhgrabensee is a protected European bird sanctuary. The lake offers habitat to many pioneer plants, dragonflies, amphibians and birds. The Kuhgrabensee is the breeding ground of many birds, such as silkkiuikku and kuningaskalastaja. From autumn onwards, an abundance of birds can be found on the lake. Then it is home to numerous ducks, geese and other water birds for several months. Among the birds you can observe are merikotka, sääksi (kalasääski), nokikana, Lapasorsa, haapana, telkkä, ruokokerttunen, sinirinta, kiuru, mustapääkerttu, pensaskerttu, tuulihaukka and ruskosuohaukka.
During the breeding season good observations of the young kuningaskalastaja that have just fledged are possible near the bird hide. Many other birds can also be found in the adjacent meadows of the Polder Oberblockland.
Kuhgrabensee is located north of the city of Bremen and adjacent to the University of Bremen. It's best to park your car at the university on the weekend and cycle (or walk) into the area. The circular route indicated on the map is about 10 km. Click on the P in the map for directions.
