Description
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include kyhmyjoutsen and nokikana. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by törmäpääsky, and meriharakka breeds on the gravelly flat banks. rytikerttunen, luhtakerttunen and pajusirkku live in the reed beds, while etelänsatakieli and pussitiainen live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by pikkulepinkäinen, pensaskerttu and hernekerttu, while tuulihaukka, Kuhankeittäjä and pikkuvarpunen breed in the trees. peltopyy, pensastasku, Töyhtökiuru and kivitasku live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially tundrametsähanhi, tundrahanhi, punasotka, tukkasotka and isokoskelo.
