Description
The Hemmelsdorfer See is a lake that has many different water birds, depending on the time of year. Breeding birds include kyhmyjoutsen, harmaasorsa, nokikana and silkkiuikku. Other birds that are observerd regularly are kuningaskalastaja, merikotka, ruskosuohaukka, rytikerttunen, rastaskerttunen, sinirinta and viiksitimali. During migration you can observe birds like pikkulokki, sääksi (kalasääski), mustatiira and punasotka.
Coolest one I've seen were uivelo in winter and I heard Kuhankeittäjä in the trees in summer. The boardwalk goes out into the lake and along the reeds. Also great spot for landscape photography.

Access
The Hemmelsdorfer See is located north of Lübeck in the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Sea. The restaurant has a small parking lot, in which you can get a spot very early in the morning. . Otherwise there is a free, public parking area available a little further down the road, which I marked as the trail head. Click on a P in the map for directions.
