Very interesting, old unused forest in the city, with uuttukyyhky, kirjosieppo, and other species you won't find so easily in other forests within a city.
Eilenriede is a vast urban forest in Hanover. Covering approximately 640 hectares, it is one of the largest city forests in Europe. Eilenriede is a forest that is not used economicly for centuries and is used for recreational purposes only. Nice old beech trees, and very huge for a forest within the city. Birds like uuttukyyhky, kirjosieppo, pyrstötiainen, töyhtötiainen, morsiosorsa or lehtopöllö can be found here.
Eilenriede is situated to the east of Hanover's city center. There are a lot of parking opportunities at the north side of the forest. Also on the Bernodette-Allee or at the parking lot of the zoo (you have to pay). Press P on the map for directions to a parking.
Public transport: From the central station by bus 121, or with the S-Bahn, 13, 3 ,7 or by foot (1.5 km approximately).
You can walk and bike within the forest. There are many trails that you can choose from. The 4,5 km circular route shown on the map is just a suggestion.
