Alpine lake surrounded by mountain forest. On the forested slopes rare birds such as pohjantikka, valkoselkätikka and varpuspöllö can be found.
The Eibsee is a picturesque mountain lake below the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. silkkiuikku and isokoskelo occur on the lake itself, but the surrounding coniferous forests are much more interesting. In addition to typical forest birds such as palokärki, harmaapäätikka, Pähkinähakki, puukiipijä, kuusitiainen, töyhtötiainen and pikkukäpylintu, also mountain birds such as the rare woodpeckers pohjantikka and valkoselkätikka, and varpuspöllö and vuoriuunilintu are found here.
On the east side of the lake there is a large parking lot and a Zugspitzbahn stop, which can be reached from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in half an hour. There are also bus services on route 9840. From the car park you can explore the area on foot or by bike, although some paths are not accessible by bike. Due to the high number of visitors, you should arrive early in the morning and not stay on the lakeside path, but a little away from it. The northern route indicated on the map is good for spotting woodpeckers and other forest birds.
