Description

Stretching along the western slopes of the Odenwald mountain, the area between the villages of Dossenheim and Schriesheim not only offers great views over the Rhine valley, but is also a protected Natura 2000 site with a rich avivauna. On the lower reaches of the hills, a mosaic of vineyards, orchards, and meadows provides a habitat for many bird species, including pikkulepinkäinen, harmaapäätikka, käenpiika, pensassirkku, and the rare vuorisirkku. In the forested upper reaches, tammitikka, palokärki, and sirittäjä can be found. Moreover, huuhkaja breed in the abandoned quarries nearby.
