The Borkener Paradies is a birdrich and beautiful nature reserve surrounded by an old meander of the river Ems.
The Borkener Paradies is a German nature reserve near Versen northwest of Meppen of approximately 30 hectares. It has served as a pasture for cattle for centuries and has been a nature reserve protected by the government since 1937. The Borkener Paradies is surrounded by an old meander of the river Ems. The area is characterized by overgrown river dunes, an alternation of open grassland, dunes, thickets and pieces of closed oak forest. It is one of the few preserved examples of a forest meadow or 'Hudewald'. The oaks grown in the open environment have short trunks, broad crowns and irregular shapes. The area has a rich collection of plants, insects and birds, including a large population of etelänsatakieli.
You can park your car in different places. A good place is along the road Zum Paradies. The circular walk that is shown on the map is about 3 km.
