Description
The Blankensee can be overlooked best from a boardwalk near the village of the same name. Close views of viiksitimali and rytikerttunen, with luck also pussitiainen, are possible from the boardwalk (no scope needed). kaulushaikara is often seen flying out of the reeds near the boardwalk, especially in winter. An occupied sääksi (kalasääski) nest can be seen from the boardwalk in summer.
Thousands of ducks and geese are on the lake in winter. uivelo, isokoskelo and telkkä give good views. Others are punasotka, tukkasotka, haapana and harmaasorsa. merikotka is regularly seen. The most common large gull is aroharmaalokki.
May is the month for mustatiira. With luck you can get valkosiipitiira and valkoposkitiira, too. Other good birds in spring are mustakaulauikku, jouhisorsa and big flocks of swallows.
Walking through the village (keltahemppo, kattohaikara), make sure to have a look for kuningaskalastaja along the river Nieplitz.
On the walk to the tower in the north you pass the small lake Seechen (diminutive of lake "See"). Chances are good for telkkä, pikku-uikku and härkälintu. From the tower you overlook the wetlands of the Ungeheuerwiesen. A breeding sääksi (kalasääski), töyhtöhyyppä, taivaanvuohi and with luck harjalintu can be seen. In winter Kurki, kapustarinta and northern geese are typical species. isolepinkäinen is regurlarly seen in the open winter landscape.

Access
You can get to Blankensee (Trebbin) by car, bus or bicycle. There is no useful train connection. There are two free car parks in the village of Blankensee from where it is best to walk to the observation points. The boardwalk is wheelchair-accessible.
