The river mouth of the river Ahr into the Rhine. You can go birding at the river banks, the meadows (minervanpöllö) and in the forests next to the river.

Description

At the river Ahr are breeding pikkutylli and kuningaskalastaja. In the floodplains are meadows, forests and a little reedbed. In the meadows are breeding minervanpöllö (10 territories in 2020). pikkulepinkäinen and pensassirkkalintu are possible breeding birds. In the forests are breeding etelänsatakieli , Kuhankeittäjä and tammitikka. You can also see haarahaukka and nuolihaukka during breeding time. In the little reedbed are rytikerttunen and luhtakerttunen (also common next to the Ahr). taiturikultarinta and kultarinta can also be found in the area.

During migration, you can see migratory birds like sääksi (kalasääski) and metsäviklo. In winter you can see some wintering birds like koskikara.

Access

There is a train station in Linz (direct connections to Cologne and Koblenz), from where you have to cross the Rhine with the ferry to Kripp. Another train station is in Sinzig (direct connections to Bonn and Koblenz) from where you can go directly to the meadows at the southern edge of the area.

You can park in Kripp (follow the B9 until Kripp). The walking route you see on the map is about 7 km.
