Description

Abca's Creek Lodge is situated in a steppe area right along a tributary of the river Gambia with mangroves. Because the river is affected by tides, at low tide the birds have an ideal area to forage. The river with mangroves, the adjacent forest and steppe area is home to a wide variety of birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Blue-bellied Roller, Malachite Kingfisher, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Purple Starling, Long-tailed Glossy Starling, Brubru, African Finfoot, White-throated Bee-eater, Bearded Barbet, Village Weaver and many more, see the birdlist below.

Access

Abca’s Creek Lodge is located along the river Gambia, 80 km east from Serakunda and the coastal hotels, 75 km from the airport. Directions from the coast and from Banjul Airport: Drive to Brikama and keep left there. Follow the Mandinaba-road until the village Killy. At Killy, turn left. After 2 km you will see on the right the signboard. Turn right and follow the road. After 400 meter you will arrive at the lodge. Press the P in the map for coordinates of directions. The lodge also has a pick-up service for € 50 (rates 2024) from Banjul airport or the accommodations on the coast.

Abca’s Creek Lodge is a nice destination for a day trip from the coastal area (the lodge also has a good restaurant, so you don't have to take drinks or lunch with you), but it is even better to stay one or two nights at the lodge. If you spend the night at Abca’s Creek Lodge (they have rooms and bungalows) you can also explore the area by bike or canoe or under the guidance of a bird guide (see the link below for more info and prices).
