This site is classified as a National Natural reserve since 1995 (Natura 2000) and converts 776 hectares of lakes, woodlands and wetlands.
Today the Réserve du Marais d'Orx constitutes a privileged stopover for migratory birds which find rest and food there. Composed of a mosaic of environments (bodies of water, willows, reed beds, meadows), the Marais d'Orx welcomes in particular a great diversity of water birds, and has become an important site for the wintering of Anatidae. We also observe a large number of species dependent on wetlands (amphibians, reptiles, insects, mammals).
