Description
The Porslahti communal gardens attract a variety of bird species in spring, summer and autumn. The regular varpunen , talitiainen and pikkuvarpunen are common birds in the gardens but it's also easy to come across birds like pajulintu , tiltaltti , pensaskerttu , hernekerttu , punarinta, peukaloinen and tikli. Especially in late summer. leppälintu , pensastasku and sinirinta have also been seen in the gardens during late summer and early autumn. Due to the high amount of small birds in the area, it's also possible to spot varpushaukka and kanahaukka hunting in the area.
The small foresty area next to the gardens can also surprise birders positively. In autumn and winter time, the forest can attract berry eating birds like punatulkku , räkättirastas and mustarastas. hippiäinen likes to hunt for insects in the coniferous trees throughout the year and harmaapäätikka, puukiipijä and pyrstötiainen have been seen in the area as well.
As an added bonus, the gardens themselves are also lovely to look at when flowers are in full bloom and vegetables start to grow. Please be mindful when visiting and photographing to not disturb the gardeners too much to make birders welcome in the future too. While the paths around the gardens are public space the gardens themselves are off limits and should not be entered.
