Description
The Slatina area is an important breeding site for many birds connected to reedbeds such as pikkuhaikara (the only location of this species in Prague), ruokosirkkalintu, Luhtakana, rastaskerttunen, rytikerttunen, Liejukana or pajusirkku. Also the ruskosuohaukka is breeding here. On the pond itself breeds many pairs of silkkiuikku, nokikana, sinisorsa and a few pairs of punasotka and tukkasotka. In the linked rural areas breed pikkulepinkäinen, pensassirkkalintu, etelänsatakieli and many others. Nearby there is a breeding site of törmäpääsky.
During the spring migration you can see birds such as sinirinta, pensastasku, mustapäätasku, kirjosieppo, heinätavi and many other species of waterfowl, taivaanvuohi, töyhtöhyyppä and many, many more species.
Many birds come to spend a night in the reedbed, especially in the end of summer. It is the best place in the area where to watch kottarainen murmuration. Also haarapääsky and keltavästäräkki come here to spend a night.
During the weekend the location can be overcrowded by people such as fishermen or bikers so I recommend you to visit the location during weekdays. Please do not disturb birds in their breeding habitats and use just visible pathways!
