Description
On the the Solana Nin saltworks, you will find a small ornithological reserve. On these diverse fields around Solana Nin more than 280 species of birds have been spotted. Many migratory birds take a break here along the salt pans on their long-haul flights to their wintering grounds in Africa and further in the Mediterranean. But the salt pans also hold a good number of breeding birds like pitkäjalka, mustajalkatylli and silkkihaikara. Other birds that can be observed are pikkutiira, meriharakka, Paksujalka, tundrakurmitsa, punajalkaviklo, valkoviklo, kuovi, mustapyrstökuiri, kuovisirri, pikkusirri, suosirri, ristisorsa, mustaviklo, pikkutylli, tylli and avosetti. In winter and early spring in the reedy pools on the east side of the salt pans (see map) sometimes osmankäämikerttunen is observed.
