Description

The Turnhouts Vennengebied is an important heathland in Flanders with its characteristic fens, heathland and grasslands. You can discover numerous birds from the viewing tower in the meadows between the Zwart Water and Hoogmoerheide. In the spring and summer dozens of water and meadow birds breed. Some of the birds you can see are kapustahaikara, mustapyrstökuiri, kuovi, käpytikka, pikkutikka, varpushaukka, kanahaukka, sääksi (kalasääski), mustapäätasku, kivitasku, isohaarahaukka and sinisuohaukka.

Nederlands: Het Turnhouts Vennengebied is een belangrijk heidegebied in Vlaanderen met zijn karakteristieke vennen, heide en graslanden. In de weilanden tussen het Zwart Water en Hoogmoerheide ontdek je tal van vogels vanaf de uitkijktoren. In het voorjaar en de zomer broeden tientallen water- en weidevogels in het gebied. Enkele vogels die je kunt tegenkomen zijn kapustahaikara, mustapyrstökuiri, kuovi, käpytikka, pikkutikka, varpushaukka, kanahaukka, sääksi (kalasääski), mustapäätasku, kivitasku, isohaarahaukka en sinisuohaukka.

Best to park at the Englandhoeve. Nice routes for short and long walks and lots to see and enjoy. Beautiful birdwatch tower. The route displayed on the map is about 8 km.
