Description

Glenlyon Dam is an earth and rockfill dam built on Pike Creek. Its impoundment is known as Lake Glenlyon. Glenlyon Dam has a lookout (1), day-use facilities and at the Dam is the Glenlyon Dam Tourist Park (2), which welcomes day visitors. Swimming, fishing and boating are all permitted. Two boat ramps facilitate access for boating.

The lookout, roads and park up to and around the Dam provide good birdwatching opportunities. The habitat is open dry eucalypt forest. Plenty of birds are attracted to the Dam. Birds you can observe include Hardhead, Great Crested Grebe, Pied Stilt, Black-fronted Dotterel, Australian Pelican, Australian White Ibis, Yellow-billed Spoonbill, White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Azure Kingfisher, Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater, Red-rumped Parrot, Restless Flycatcher, White-winged Chough, Double-barred Finch, and Australian Zebra Finch.
