Descripción

Witton Lakes are in the Stockland Green area of Birmingham. The two lakes are former drinking water reservoirs. The larger lake is used for boating and the smaller shallower lake is dedicated to wildlife. On the Northern side of the lakes is Witton Lakes Eco Hub, which has a cafe and toilets. The park has open grassland, wooded areas and wildflower meadows, numerous streams lead in and out of the lakes and a community orchard had been planted. The park has a very active friends group.

(*1) (press STAR on map), check large lake in Winter for Silbón Europeo, Ánade friso and good numbers of Zampullín Común. Lower fish numbers mean Somormujo Lavanco are only in low numbers, Cisne Vulgar numbers can be very high for a inner city location and Porrón Osculado and Serreta Grande occasionally turn up.

(*2), the smaller lake can have Cerceta Común, Cuchara Común, Gallineta Común, Focha Común and Garza Real though there is a lot of movement of ducks between each lake. A number of different species of Gull (Laridae) have been seen including Gaviota Cana and unusually for such an inland site Gaviota Tridáctila.

(*3), the area of trees at the Eastern end of the park has Jilguero Lúgano and Carbonero Garrapinos, Mito Común, Herrerillo Común and Carbonero Común are numerous. During Spring/Summer Curruca Zarcera, Mosquitero Musical, Mosquitero Común, Curruca Capirotada, Avión Común, Golondrina Común and Vencejo Común can be seen. Charrán Común regularly turn up on passage.
