Watercress Nature Reserve

Hertfordshire  >  United Kingdom

These are former watercress beds between the River Ver and suburban streets. They benefit from a larger open space area of allotments and golf course nearby.

Descripción

This must be a paradise for small birds; there's loads of them around the feeders and woodlands. The pond and wetland have some waterfowl and there have been Rascón Europeo. Absolutely amazing for somewhere backing on to an urban street with prowling cats! Maybe the lack of intensive chemical monoculture is the reason.

Accesso

Watercress is best reached on foot - local parking is difficult, but use the carpark at Westminster Lodge and walk along riverside walk from the foot of Holywell Hill. If this place were too easily reached then it would be too busy and lose its charm. In the reserve, access is by foot, with limited wheelchair access.
