Descripción

Mousehole is a fishing village on the Western shore of Mounts Bay. It's most interesting ornithological connection is the Mousehole Wild Bird Hospital and Sanctuary, originally founded in 1928 by sisters Dorothy and Phyllis Yglesias, it is now a charity solely funded by public contribution. During the 1967 Torrey Canyon tanker disaster and subsequent oil spill, the hospital helped treat and rescue over 8,000 oiled seabirds, unfortunately as of the Summer of 2022 the hospital is temporarily closed due to an outbreak of Avian Influenza (HN51), hopefully this closure ends soon as this is the primary bird rescue center for Cornwall.

Kemyel Crease is a Cornwall Wildlife Trust reserve, only accessible on foot along the South West Coast Path, once an area of South facing gardens or 'Quillets' set out in Victorian times. It has a number of large mature Monterey Pines (Pinus radiata) and Monterey Cypress (Hesperocyparis macrocarpa) originally planted as windbreaks, the whole reserve is totally overgrown and is only viewable from the coast path that runs through it's center.

The small but spectacular Carn-du headland gives views in all directions, the seabed shelves into extremely deep water close to shore, during or following storms especially with on shore winds seabirds may be forced close to shore here, along this section of coast Pardela Pichoneta, Colimbo Grande, Colimbo Chico, Colimbo Ártico, Alcatraz Atlántico, Gaviota Enana, Gavión Hiperbóreo and Arao Aliblanco are all possible depending on season and weather conditions.
