Moseley Green and Oakenhill Wood is an open-plan wooded area between Parkend and Mallards Pike. In contrast to most of the Forest of Dean, there are few mature trees here. Oakenhill (a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust reserve) and Little Moseley are former heath areas where birch is slowly taking over. Thus adders, Alcotán Europeo, Tarabilla común, Chocha Perdiz and Chotacabras Europeo are still a possibility in summer. Mosquitero Musical, Curruca Capirotada and Mosquitero Común numerous. Large flocks of juvenile Jilguero Europeo opposite the Rising Sun pub in late summer.
The area around Parkend church is excellent for winter finches. Look for Picogordo Común (up to 30 in January) near the tops of the pine trees in the churchyard, and downhill from the car park. Also Piquitureto Común, Jilguero Lúgano and Pinzón Real in smaller numbers. Small areas of wetland attract heron and Zampullín Común.
