Headland with cliffs and rocky beach, good for migration watch and seawatch. Here the Severn estuary ends and the Bristol Channel begins.
Lavernock Point usual seawatch species eg Ostrero Euroasiático, Negrón común, Alcatraz Atlántico, Fulmar Boreal, Págalo Grande, petrels, Gaviota Tridáctila, Halcón Peregrino, Gaviota Cabecinegra and terns. Breeding species include Curruca Zarcera, Curruca Capirotada and Bisbita Costero. Migrating flocks of Zorzal Alirrojo, Zorzal Real, Pardillo Común, waders, Jilguero Europeo and 1,000s of Paloma Torcaz. The beach is good for triassic and jurassic fossils such as ammonites, giant oysters, bones and teeth of marine reptiles. The sea here has a high tidal range and sweeps in very quickly. Check tide times (see the link below) before venturing to the shoreline and avoid overhanging cliffs.
From M4 junction 33 go south on A4232, then right at first interchange on A4060, continue past Barry and through Sully village. Sign to Lavernock on right 2 miles further on.
