Descripción
Manged by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, this former gravel pit is known for dragonflies and damselflies, and amphibians, including great crested newts. The lakes and ponds attract various waterfowl: Garza Real, Somormujo Lavanco, Porrón Moñudo, Martín Pescador Común, Focha Común, Cormorán Grande, Gaviota Reidora, Charrán Común and others. The broadleaved woodland hosts typical species: Pico Picapinos, Agateador Euroasiático, Cárabo Común, Trepador Azul, etc.

South-west of Derby, Hilton Gravel Pits are easily accessible by car (Junction 5 of A50). Parking available on Willowpit Lane. Click P on the map for details. The track along the field gate entrance is in largely good condition and provides access to a bird viewing screen. Paths on other areas of the site are flat but are often muddy and unsuitable for wheelchairs. The circular route is about 2 km in length.
