Churchtown Farm Community Nature Reserve is between the town of Saltash and the River Lynher in South East Cornwall.

Descripción

The reserve is owned and managed by Cornwall Wildlife Trust. Churchtown Farm Community Nature Reserve comprises of a number of different habitats including hay meadows, arable fields, hedgerows, woodland, wetland, rocky shoreline with views over mudflats. There are numerous footpaths on the reserve, BE WARNED from 1st March - 30th September please keep to footpaths to prevent disturbance to ground nesting birds, DO NOT WALK ACROSS FIELDS THAT ARE IN CULTIVATION, this is a working farm, livestock may be present on site. Also be aware some footpaths may be extremely wet and slippery, with steep parts in places. The northern loop walk is called the Gavilán Común trail, the Southern loop walk is called the Zarapito Real trail (Press STAR on map).

Whilst most birds are of more commoner species, Pico Menor were regular, unfortunately they are now rarely seen. With the reserve being so close to the River Lynher, estuary birds can also be expected, on medium high tides the local Espátula Común roost on Beggar's Island, Press STAR on map.

Accesso

From Plymouth (just on the East side of the River Tamar), cross Tamar Suspension Bridge, take note of overhead gantry lane restrictions. At Saltash side take Left slip road signed Town Centre, then turn Left signed Saltash Town Centre. This road now climbs gently upwards passing shops. Click on the P in the map to get directions. The walking route indicated on the map is about 4 km long.
