Descripción

Brockholes was previously a sand and gravel quarry and has been transformed into a natural haven. Fields brimming with orchids and yellow rattle, woods shining bright with bluebells. The land has been regenerated as a mosaic of key habitats such as pools, reedbeds and woodland. In spring birds like Avefría Europea, Ostrero Euroasiático, Archibebe Común and more breed on Meadow Lake and Number 1 Pit. In May, Zarapito Trinador roost in large numbers, while throughout spring and summer swifts, Avión Zapador and Alcotán Europeo create aerial displays over the lakes. Autumn is the time to see Águila Pescadora passing over Brockholes on their way back to Africa, while in winter, the reserve is packed with migratory waders. Other birds you can see here are Jilguero Europeo, Mito Común, Carbonero Garrapinos, Carricerín Común, Martín Pescador Común, Zarapito Real and Porrón Moñudo.
