Descripción

Ambersham Common is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Mostly composed of heathland, a rare habitat in West Sussex, surrounded on all sides by deciduous but mostly coniferous woodland. As with most heathland the dominant plants are Heather (Calluna) and Gorse (Ulex) with Birch (Betula) trees and scrubland, the area supports a good number of species such as Chotacabras Europeo, Curruca Rabilarga, Tarabilla común Alcotán Europeo, Escribano Cerillo, Mosquitero Musical, Curruca Mosquitera, Mosquitero Común, Curruca Capirotada, Papamoscas Gris, Cuco Común, Gavilán Común and Trepador Azul, the large areas of conifer/deciduous trees attract Pardillo Alpino, Piquitureto Común, Jilguero Lúgano and both Reyezuelo Listado and Reyezuelo Sencillo.

NOTE the marked route on map (3 km) concentrates on the largest heathland area and immediate surrounding woodland, those with more time can explore numerous paths outside of this area.
