Descripción

The Norsholm area is quite vast and contains many minor sites shortly described here. The areas mentioned are marked with a star on the map. Press on a star and you can see the name of the area.

Grensholmsbron: Winter site with open waters even during harsh winters. Thousands of Porrón Moñudo (at most 2000), hundreds of Serreta Chica (only numerous during november and december), Porrón Osculado (at most 700), Ánade azulón (at most 600), and Serreta Grande (at most 600). Among more rarer wintering birds it is most known for wintering Águila Real, and Martín Pescador Común. Other not yearly winter visitors are Piquituerto Aliblanco, Camachuelo Picogrueso during invasions, and Zampullín Común, Ánade friso, Pardillo Piquigualdo, Ánade rabudo norteño, Serreta Mediana, and Pardillo Ártico during birdrich winters.

Norsholms coastal meadows: Reed free coastal meadows which are rich in waders during late spring and autumn. Although only if the water level is right (only during high water). Few arctic waders are found but Andarríos Grande, Chorlitejo Chico, Archibebe Oscuro, Combatiente, Archibebe Común, Agachadiza común, Chocha Perdiz, Andarríos Bastardo and Archibebe Claro. Archibebe Común, Avefría Europea, and Agachadiza común breed. Garceta Grande, Martín Pescador Común, and Serreta Mediana are common.

Åby strandängar: Reed coated coastal meadows which are flooded during spring floods. They are then usually filled with early waders and ducks. Avetoro Común can be heard singing. All common dabbling ducks are usually found except Cerceta Carretona. Silbón Europeo, Ánade azulón, and Ánade friso. On these coastal meadows Garceta Grande is often found.

Braskens grav: is an oxbow lake of the river Motala ström which often floods making it perfect for waders and ducks. Cerceta Común is numerous, Archibebe Oscuro, and other common tringa-waders are often found along with Agachadiza Chica. Garceta Grande is often found here. Gallineta Común, and Focha Común breed.

Åby gård: complex of 3 ponds, the large, the small and fiskaretorpet. It is these ponds and the field around them which Norsholm is most known for. It has a bird observation tower. During spring it holds large amounts of ducks and swans with Cisne Vulgar, Cisne Cantor, Ánade azulón, Silbón Europeo, Ánade friso, Cerceta Común, Cuchara Común, Porrón Moñudo, Serreta Chica, and Serreta Grande being common and Cerceta Carretona and Ánade rabudo norteño, being rarer. Other common wetland birds are Focha Común, Grulla Común, Garza Real. Cormorán Grande often roost here. Rarer birds roosting are Zampullín Común, Gallineta Común, Avetoro Común (nearby reed areas), and Garceta Grande. There are small islands in the pond which hold a small tern and gull colony. Theese islands also hold small amounts of waders often; Zarapito Real, Archibebe Común, Avefría Europea, Combatiente and Andarríos Bastardo. During early spring the area is great for roosting geese and swans with hundreds of Ánsar careto, Ánsar común, Ánsar Campestre, Barnacla canadiense grande, and Barnacla Cariblanca during good years. often along with smaller amounts of Cisne Chico (rare), Ánsar Campestre de la Tundra, Ánsar piquicorto, and Barnacla Carinegra (rare).

Around these ponds Búho Chico, Zampullín Común, Gallineta Común, Cisne Cantor, Somormujo Lavanco, Barnacla canadiense grande, Ánsar común, Cerceta Común, Grulla Común, Avefría Europea, Agachadiza común, Focha Común, Gaviota Reidora, Gavión Atlántico, Cisne Vulgar, Charrán Común, Faisán Vulgar, Porrón Moñudo, Ánade azulón, Porrón Osculado, and southern Lavandera Boyera breed along with more common birds.

During autumn large amounts of ducks can rest (but less than during spring). The small islands grow during dry summers and can some years hold arctic waders like Correlimos Común, Correlimos Zarapitín, and Correlimos de Temminck. Ruiseñor Pechiazul, and Escribano Lapón can sometimes be found on the surrounding fields.
