Descripción

Kvismare is wetland nature reserve of 732 ha. Each year around 200 different bird species are observed in the area, both during migration and breeding. In the center of the reserve is the hill "Öby kulle" with parking spots, toilets, barbecue places and information signs. Öby kulle is an important hibernation place for water snakes and vipers. When the early spring sun warms the ground hundreds of them can be seen for a few days before they crawl out to the wetlands and agricultural landscape.

West of Öby kulle is Lake "Rysjön", an open lake with areas of common reed surrounded with wetlands. It's a breeding place for species such as Fumarel Común, Ánade friso, Cerceta Carretona, Cuchara Común, Somormujo Cuellirrojo, Zampullín Cuellirrojo, Avetoro Común, Bigotudo, Carricero Tordal and Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental. During spring and autumn the fields and wetland areas around Lake Rysjön are good places to observe migrating Grulla Común and geese, especially Ánsar Campestre. Many of them uses the lake as sleeping place.

East of Öby kulle a path leads to Lake "Fågelsjön" and a larger wetland area called Estern Kvismaren, which can also be accessed by the road that goes south from Öby kulle. This is a good place to see migrating birds, especially in the spring. Ánsar Campestre is seen in the large numbers, but every year rarer species such as Ánsar chico, Ánsar piquicorto, Ánsar careto are observed in lesser number. During winter time Lake Fågelsjön is a good place to see Pigargo Europeo and Águila Real.

The south west part of Eastern Kvismaren, Hammarmaden, is the best place in the area to see and listen to Agachadiza Chica and Agachadiza Real when they migrate during spring.
