Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of Grulla Común and several species of waders like Aguja Colinegra, Chorlitejo Grande, Cigüeñuela común, Chorlito Dorado Europeo, Correlimos Menudo, Archibebe Claro, Combatiente, Correlimos Común, Andarríos Chico, Andarríos Grande, Agachadiza común and Andarríos Bastardo. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as Ruiseñor Pechiazul, Bisbita Alpino or Escribano Palustre. Other birds you can spot in the area are Alcaudón real, Bengalí Rojo, Estrilda Común and Abubilla común. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Aguilucho pálido, Milano Real, Elanio Común, Esmerejón and Búho Campestre. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
