Descripción
The Segrià and Utxesa drylands is a group of reservoirs and their respective tail waters. It was built over 100 years ago to generate hydroelectric power, and has since become naturalized. The surrounding environment is formed by a mosaic of crops, basically fruit trees but also cereals and others. This means that there is a great diversity of landscapes and that in a small area we can find highly diversified habitats. Utxesa is therefore one of the enclaves of the Catalan interior that is of most ornithological interest.
It is an important area for birds linked to the reed beds and birds like Bigotudo, Escribano Palustre, Carricerín Real, Carricero Tordal, Cistícola Buitrón and Cetia Ruiseñor. But also heron species like Garza Imperial, Martinete Común and Avetorillo común feel at home here. It is also a stop in the migratory and wintering stages of numerous species of ducks and other waterbirds. The area also houses the larger part of the population of Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental in Catalonia. But many more birds can be seen, see the extended birdlist below.

El entorno circundante está formado por un mosaico de cultivos, básicamente frutales pero también cereales y otros. Esto quiere decir que existe una gran diversidad de paisajes y que en un área pequeña podemos encontrar hábitats muy diversificados. Utxesa es, por tanto, uno de los enclaves del interior catalán de mayor interés ornitológico.
Es un área importante para las aves vinculadas a los carrizales y aves como Bigotudo, Escribano Palustre, Carricerín Real, Carricero Tordal, Cistícola Buitrón y Cetia Ruiseñor. Pero también especies de garzas como Garza Imperial, Martinete Común y Avetorillo común se sienten como en casa aquí. También es una parada en las etapas migratorias e invernales de numerosas especies de patos y otras aves acuáticas. El área también alberga la mayor parte de la población de Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental en Cataluña. Pero se pueden ver muchas más aves, consulte la lista de aves ampliada a continuación.

Park at the visitor center. From there you can make a circular walk of 7,5 km around the area which passes vantage points and bird hides. Click on the P in the map to get directions.
