Descripción

La Zarza is a beautiful ravine full with dense laurel forests, fern covered undergrowth and steep rockwalls and caves. The area was home to the original inhabitants of La Palma, called the Benahoares. They left several circular markings on the steep rockwalls and lived in the surrounding caves. The area is, due to its dense forests, a beautiful area for birds and home to a great variety of species.

Both endemic pigeons can be seen: Paloma Turqué and Paloma Rabiche. Many small songbirds are mostly present in combined flocks, consisting of Pinzón Vulgar, Herrerillo Canario, Mosquitero Canario and Reyezuelo Sencillo. Sometimes a Gavilán Común might show itself.

Above the forests, small flocks of Vencejo Unicolor can be seen.
