Descripción

Gravera de las Galletas is one of the rare wetlands for migratory waders on the southern slope of Tenerife. It has a peculiar location, right along the road, next to the beach. The area was formed as a result of extraction of gravel, becoming a set of small brackish ponds that maintained permanently. The water level has significant fluctuations, due both to the changing rhythm of the tides and to greater or lesser autumn rainfall. Among the birds you can encounter are Chorlitejo Grande, Andarríos Chico, Garceta Común, Archibebe Claro, Correlimos Común, Vuelvepiedras Común, Correlimos Zarapitín, Alcaudón Norteño and Lavandera Cascadeña. Also more rare waders on the Canary Islands like Correlimos Gordo, Cigüeñuela común, Chorlito Gris, Correlimos de Temminck, Andarríos Grande, Andarríos Bastardo and Archibebe Patigualdo Chico have been observed here.
