Descripción
Radensko Polje is a small karst plain south-east of Ljubljana. The landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, fields, hedgerows and surrounding forest edges, creating a rich variety of habitats within a compact area.
The plain is home to Cigüeña Blanca, Garza Real, Garza Imperial, Garceta Grande and Garceta Común. Seasonal floods attract ducks such as Porrón Europeo, Cerceta Común, Silbón Europeo and Porrón Moñudo, as well as Andarríos Chico and Andarríos Grande, while Martín Pescador Común can be found along streams. Raptors include Busardo ratonero , Cernícalo vulgar and Azor Común, with Cernícalo Patirrojo passing during migration. Warblers and several woodpeckers add to the diversity.
Though not the easiest birding location - birds tend to be elusive and the terrain challenging - Radensko Polje rewards patience with excellent birdlife and scenic karst landscape.
