Descripción
Part of the Topčiderski Park includes very old trees (some are several centuries old) and short-grass lawns. There is also a small patch of secondary forest in urban environment, a scenic lake, a canal with concrete banks. The holes in the old trees are used for nesting by Grajilla Occidental, Estornino Pinto, Pito Real, Trepador Azul, Pico Mediano and other hole-nesting birds. There are also many Paloma Torcaz, Pinzón Vulgar and other open-nest species. The park is characterized by temperature inversion, so it is always several degrees colder than in the surrounding hills. In winter Lavandera Cascadeña and smaller sandpipers appear at the banks of the canal. Many ducklings of Ánade azulón are seen in summer.
