Descripción
Ada Ciganlija ("Gipsies' Island"), also known as the "Sea of Belgrade", is a good all-round urban birding place, but it hides some interesting species too. Ánade azulón, Focha Común, and Cisne Vulgar patrol the main lake, while Gallineta Común and Zampullín Común are on the riverbank at the north side of the island. Martín Pescador Común, Cormorán Grande, Garza Real, and Martinete Común are usually around the artificial lake "Ada Safari" on the east side of the island.
Ada Cignalija is forested with numerous different deciduous forest species where many woodpecker and songbird species can be found. The most interesting forest locations are around the trim track in the center of the island and inside the protected habitat "Fungi of Ada Ciganlija" in the western part of the island. A patch of willow and poplar forest near the Ada Bridge on the north side of the island belongs to the "Cormorán Pigmeo wintering protected area". The narrow path along the north shore of the island sitting between the forest and the scattered floating cottages can also produce many bird species.
This birdingplace is especially interesting in winter on sunny days, when numerous birds are active and there is a chance to encounter not-so-common winter guests, like the Zampullín Cuellirrojo.
