The wetland of Paul de Tornada and the surrounding area makes up a flooded expanse in periods of increased rainfall. This system of ditches, with a south-north flow direction, flows into the Tornada River, which, in turn, flows into the shell of São Martinho do Porto. The wet areas makes it an attractive place for nesting and migratory birds. Among the birds you can see here are Garza Imperial, Calamón Común, Tarabilla Norteña, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental and if you are very lucky the Ruiseñor Pechiazul which is very rare in Portugal. Highway A8 - Exit at km 86 (node 20), then in the direction of Tornada, via national road N8. The Paul de Tornada Educational EcologicalCentre is about 4 km north of the town of Caldas da Rainha, near the village of Tornada. You can make a circular walk of 3,7 km around the wetland.
