In the area of 2125 ha, including the vicinity of Lake Turawskie, the special bird protection area PLB160004 'Turawski Reservoir' was established. There are at least 24 species of birds listed in Annex I of the Birds Directive in the bird refuge. The Turawski Reservoir is one of the most important refuges for migrating birds in the Opole region. In autumn and spring, big groups of up to 22,000 individuals stay on Jezioro Turawskie. Among the birds you can see are Ánsar común, Ánsar careto, Ánsar Campestre de la Tundra, Chorlitejo Chico, Zampullín Común, Somormujo Lavanco, Serreta Grande, Zampullín Cuellinegro, Avefría Europea, Grulla Común, Escribano Palustre, Escribano Cerillo, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Pigargo Europeo, many species of ducks and birds of reeds, see the birdlist below.
