Descripción
Arekilen is a shallow lake with large reedbeds and a wet alder forest. Several Garza Real nests can be seen from the viewing platform. Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental breeds there, and can be seen hunting from the platform. Both Picamaderos Negro and Pico Menor breed in the nearby forest. If you are lucky, you might also find some Bigotudo.

Accesso
Take the 108 road out to Kirkøy. There is a sign to Arekilen by the road. The nearest parking lot is by Ørekroken, there is a sign to it along the 108 road. There are larger parking lots by Hvaler Church and Hvaler Town Hall, but there's a longer walk from these. Note that these parking lots, especially the one by Ørekroken, can be rather cramped during summer. The walk from the sign and to Arekilen is only five minutes long. First you'll walk by a small farm. Keep to the right when you reach a small summer home. The path splits in the forest. The left one takes you to the waterfront, while the right to the viewing platform. Both these paths can be slippery after recent rainfall
