Zwart Water

The "Zwart Water" area consists of a large water body and several smaller damp meadows and pastures. The area is surrounded by mixed forests of mainly deciduous forest with smaller patches of pine forests. The lake draws many waterfowl to the area. Large groups of ducks, geese and swans kan be found on the lake, like Ánade friso, Cerceta Común, Porrón Europeo, Ánsar común and Cisne Vulgar. Many waders and herons forage on the banks of the westside of the lake, like Andarríos Bastardo, Andarríos Chico, Andarríos Grande, Archibebe Claro and Garceta Grande. There's a large roosting area of waterfowl in the northwestern part of the lake and also harbours a large resting tree for Cormorán Grande. If you're lucky, you can find Espátula Común or even a beaver.

There are several semi open pastures and damp meadows on the eastern side of the lake. Especially in early spring, these damp meadows can be very interesting for waders, like Chorlitejo Chico and Combatiente. The surrounding bushes are used as breeding habitat by Escribano Cerillo, Tarabilla común and Colirrojo Real.

The surrounding forests of the large lake are used as breeding habitat for many species of songbird and, especially, woodpeckers. Due to the fact that the forest consists of mainly deciduous forests with patches of pine forests, the biodiversity is high. Species like Trepador Azul, Agateador Europeo, Herrerillo Capuchino and Carbonero Montano can be found here. Even Agateador Euroasiático has been present for several years. All species of woodpecker can be found within the forests and surrounding pastures: Pico Picapinos, Pico Mediano, Pico Menor, Pito Real and Picamaderos Negro. If you're lucky, you can even find a Torcecuello Euroasiático during spring.

During winter, the lake is often frozen, so no waterfowl is present. The forests are, nonetheless, still in use by many birds. Large mixed flocks of tits, finches and thrushes are present. In the patches of pine forests, species like Reyezuelo Sencillo and Reyezuelo Listado can be found. Also, within the large flocks of birds, species like Carbonero Montano, Carbonero Palustre and Carbonero Garrapinos are present. Piquitureto Común and Pinzón Real also feed on the pine cones in these parts of the forest.

Nederlands: Het Zwart Water bestaat uit een groot meer en enkele kleinere vochtige weilanden. Het gebied is omgeven door gemengde bossen van voornamelijk loofbos met kleinere stukken dennenbossen. Het meer trekt veel watervogels naar het gebied. Op het meer zijn grote groepen eenden, ganzen en zwanen te vinden, zoals Ánade friso, Cerceta Común, Porrón Europeo, Ánsar común en Cisne Vulgar. Aan de westkant van het meer foerageren veel steltlopers en reigers, zoals Andarríos Bastardo, Andarríos Chico, Andarríos Grande, Archibebe Claro en Garceta Grande. Er is een groot rustgebied voor watervogels in het noordwestelijke deel van het meer en herbergt ook een grote rustboom voor Cormorán Grande. Als je geluk hebt, kun je een Espátula Común of zelfs een bever vinden.

Er zijn verschillende halfopen weilanden en vochtige weilanden aan de oostkant van het meer. Vooral in het vroege voorjaar kunnen deze vochtige weilanden erg interessant zijn voor steltlopers, zoals Chorlitejo Chico en Combatiente. De omringende struiken worden gebruikt als broedgebied door Escribano Cerillo, Tarabilla común en Colirrojo Real.

De omliggende bossen van het grote meer worden gebruikt als broedgebied voor vele soorten zangvogels en vooral spechten. Doordat het bos voornamelijk bestaat uit loofbossen met stukjes dennenbossen is de biodiversiteit hoog. Soorten als Trepador Azul, Agateador Europeo, Herrerillo Capuchino en Carbonero Montano zijn hier te vinden. Zelfs Agateador Euroasiático is al enkele jaren aanwezig. Alle soorten spechten komen voor in de bossen en omliggende weilanden: Pico Picapinos, Pico Mediano, Pico Menor, Pito Real en Picamaderos Negro. Als je geluk hebt, kun je in het voorjaar zelfs een Torcecuello Euroasiático vinden.

In de winter is het meer vaak bevroren, waardoor er geen watervogels zijn. Toch worden de bossen nog steeds door veel vogels gebruikt. Grote gemengde groepen mezen, vinken en lijsters zijn aanwezig. In de dennenbossen komen soorten als Reyezuelo Sencillo en Reyezuelo Listado voor. Ook zijn binnen de grote groepen vogels soorten als Carbonero Montano, Carbonero Palustre en Carbonero Garrapinos aanwezig. Piquitureto Común en Pinzón Real voeden zich ook met de dennenappels in deze delen van het bos.

There are several parkingspots in the area, but the best one lies in the center of the area (P on the map). From here, you'll be able to walk around the lake and the damp meadows and will take you about an hour. The total length of the walk is about 3 km long. The southern part of the lake is directly visible from near the parking spot. The resting area of the waterfowl is best visible from the north. You'll be able to walk around the pastures and the damp meadows will be visible from these paths.

Nederlands: Er zijn meerdere parkeerplaatsen in de buurt, maar de beste ligt in het centrum van het gebied (P op de kaart). Vanaf hier kun je rond het meer en de vochtige weilanden lopen en doe je er ongeveer een uur over. De totale lengte van de wandeling is ongeveer 3 km lang. Het zuidelijke deel van het meer is direct zichtbaar vanaf de parkeerplaats. Het rustgebied van de watervogels is het best zichtbaar vanuit het noorden. Je kunt rond de weilanden lopen en vanaf deze paden zijn de vochtige weilanden zichtbaar.
