This park was designed together with the surrounding residential eareas in the 1920's and is a protected historical site since 2011. All kinds of birds seek shelter in the city, especcially in winter, and this park is the largest green space in a kilometers wide range. Its got open water with islands next to grazing fields for geese (sometimes these fields are very wet) and an Arboretum. Also some artificial hills. The hidden old bird decoy island is closed to visitors year round and home to the owls and Gavilán Común. The protected botanical garden (heemtuin) with a bubbling stream and the schoolgardens harbor a permaculture garden and an wonderfull Kinderboerderij. That sheltered southern, woody garden part gives protection and food to a range of smaller forestbirds and birds of prey. Among the birds you can see in the park are Reyezuelo Sencillo, Reyezuelo Listado, Mito Común, Pito Real, Gavilán Común, Busardo ratonero, Arrendajo Euroasiático, Cárabo Común, Corneja Negra and Martín Pescador Común.

Nederlands: Het Zuiderpark is in de jaren '20 samen met de omliggende woonwijken ontworpen en is sinds 2011 een beschermd historisch gebied. Vooral in de winter zoeken allerlei vogels hun toevlucht in de stad en dit park is de grootste groene ruimte in kilometers omtrek. Het heeft open water met eilanden naast grasvelden voor ganzen (soms zijn deze velden erg nat) en een arboretum. Ook enkele kunstmatige heuvels. Het verborgen oude vogeleiland is het hele jaar door gesloten voor bezoekers en de thuisbasis van de uilen en Gavilán Común. De beschermde heemtuin met een bruisend beekje en de schooltuinen herbergen een permacultuurtuin en een prachtige kinderboerderij. Dat beschutte zuidelijke, bosrijke tuindeel biedt bescherming en voedsel aan een reeks kleinere bosvogels en roofvogels. Onder de vogels die je in het park kunt zien zijn Reyezuelo Sencillo, Reyezuelo Listado, Mito Común, Pito Real, Gavilán Común, Busardo ratonero, Arrendajo Euroasiático, Cárabo Común, Corneja Negra en Martín Pescador Común.

The Zuiderpark is situated within city limits and therefore on walking distance from public transport: trams and busses. There is a parking space at the eastern side, near the indoor swimmingpool and sports grounds. The suggested route on the Birdingplaces-map is 4 km.
